Attractions in Wangdue Phodrang

To the south of Punakha, located at Alt. 4,500 ft., is Wangduephodrang Dzong built in 1637 by zhabdrung. The dzong stands at confluence of Puna Sang-chu and Dang-chu rivers. Wangdue district is very famous for its fine Bamboo work and its slate and stone carving.

Gangtey Goemba (Monastery)/ Phobjikha

Its altitude is 9,840 feet. The valley of Phobjikha is very well known for the Black Naked Cranes, Since it’s the winter home for Black Naked Crane. Bhutan is a home for 600 Black Naked Crane with the Phobjikha being one of the popular home for the Black Naked Crane. The birds migrate to Phobjikha in the winter for six months and these birds migrate from the Tibetan Plateau.
